Ms. Ryan’s casework experience involves serological and DNA analysis of evidence from all types and manners of crimes including burglaries, robberies, assaults, rapes, homicides, and even mass disasters and missing persons identifications. Her current role as Laboratory Director at Pure Gold Forensics (www.puregoldforensics.com) allows her the ability to perform forensic serology and DNA analysis for both prosecution and defense agencies.
Ms. Ryan’s deposition and trial testimony experience includes testimony for both the prosecution and the defense. Her forensic serology and DNA expert testimony has been admitted in nineteen states – Rhode Island, Maryland, Texas, Florida, California, Washington, Iowa, Idaho, Arizona, Connecticut,Wisconsin, New York, Georgia, Louisiana, Montana, Arkansas, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, – as well as in the District of Columbia and in Kaiserslautern, Germany and Okinawa, Japan. She has been accepted as an expert witness in forensic serology and DNA analysis over 140 times in her career and has been deposed as an expert witness in both criminal and civil trials over 25 times.
In addition to her considerable forensic case-working experience, which includes processing several thousand cases, Ms. Ryan has also served as an adjunct professor for National University’s Master of Forensic Science program where she taught the Advanced Forensic Serology and DNA course as well as the Advanced Criminalistics course. She has also given multiple presentations on DNA evidence and the capabilities of the DNA crime lab to students, investigators, attorneys, sexual assault nurse examiners, and cold case detectives, among others.
Suzanna has also been a contributor to Law Officer Magazine, LawOfficer.com, and Forensic Magazine. She has published peer-reviewed journal articles in the Journal of Forensic Sciences, the Journal of Cold Case Review, and Forensic Science International: Genetics. She has also served as Director of Forensic Consulting with the American Investigative Society of Cold Case where she reviewed cold cases and provided serological testing and M-Vac DNA collection services pro bono.
Suzanna is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the California Association of Criminalists, she has been certified in Molecular Biology by the American Board of Criminalistics, and she has been licensed as a Forensic Biology/DNA Analyst by the Texas Forensic Science Commission.
